About Erie County Criminal History

Erie County criminal records are split among the Sheriff, local and county courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. This private resource organizes the official portals, addresses, and telephone numbers so readers can begin with the office that actually keeps the record. It also explains why an arrest report, court file, booking entry, and fingerprint-based state history may contain different facts about the same event.

Why We Built This Site

New York divides criminal record custody by both agency and stage of the case. The Erie County Sheriff keeps its own arrest, booking, jail, and warrant material. City, town, village, County, and Supreme Courts keep their respective court files, while the Erie County Clerk indexes closed felony matters. DCJS holds the fingerprint-based state history available to its subject, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry publishes the records state law makes public. This site brings the verified contact details, official search channels, fees, and request steps into one Erie County reference.

What You Will Find Here

  • Official channels: where Erie County courts, the Sheriff, DCJS, and other custodians accept record requests
  • Record guides: how criminal court case records are found and read in Erie County
  • Self-review routes: how the OCA name-based search differs from fingerprint review through DCJS and IdentoGO
  • Record sealing: which New York processes begin in the court that handled the case and how verification reaches DCJS

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately run reference site. It has no connection to any New York court, sheriff's office, police department, or state agency. There are real limits to what it can do:

  • We cannot run an official background check or pull a criminal record for anyone
  • We cannot file record-sealing papers, FOIL requests, or other forms on anyone's behalf
  • We cannot issue certified copies of any criminal record, court document, or rap sheet
  • We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific charge or case applies to you
  • We cannot promise that every office detail or fee remains unchanged after publication

Only the Erie County Sheriff, the originating court, DCJS, or another lawful custodian can issue an official record. This resource can identify the channel, but it cannot supply the document.

Search Partners

Search boxes on some pages are operated by outside providers. Those providers control their services, results, and prices. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may produce a referral fee that supports this free resource. Erie County Criminal History does not control the provider's matching methods, charges, or output.
