Why We Built This Site

New York divides criminal record custody by both agency and stage of the case. The Erie County Sheriff keeps its own arrest, booking, jail, and warrant material. City, town, village, County, and Supreme Courts keep their respective court files, while the Erie County Clerk indexes closed felony matters. DCJS holds the fingerprint-based state history available to its subject, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry publishes the records state law makes public.
